So now I'm about 4.5 weeks along, and so far it has been relatively uneventful. There are a few things I notice, mainly increased smell sensitivity, tiredness, and one very tender rack. On the subject of boobs, I'm going to be graphic here and say that last night I removed my piercings. After 8 years of having them, it was a very odd thing to do, but it's necessary for them to heal before the baby arrives. And I'm giving myself more than enough time since they took so fracking long to heal in the first place.
I'm trying to remain detached (as much as possible) and remember that this isn't a baby yet. It's a cluster of cells, multiplying and dividing and making a baby eventually exist. I had a sharp cramp earlier today while doing some housework, and I thought "Huh.. is that how it's going to go?" I know that I have a 2 in 3 chance of keeping this zygote afloat, and I plan to do just that - but just in case, I want to remain open to the fact that it would not mean the end of the world by any means. Better women than I have lived through multiple miscarriages and had beautiful children on the other end. Nothing to fear, here.
I haven't had any nausea yet, only the occasional gag while brushing my teeth, which is new. But I'm doing my best to eat healthily and get some exercise. Yesterday Eric and I walked down to the local diner for lunch, and (more importantly) back UP the hill when we were done. I am phasing out soda altogether, and have limited my caffeine to one beverage per day. I've also been drinking a TON of water. I've tried to focus on foods that are protein-heavy, and have tried to limit my empty carbs as much as possible. We'll see how that goes as I get into the hungry phases.
Sasha continues to be a joy, and I'm sure he's going to be the best baby-guard-dog that ever lived. I try to spend quality time with him since I know that will be difficult to manage come next May. Lots of things to think about, lots to plan. But still a good long way away yet.
